Soccer teams end season, players honored

The Pima Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams each had several players who received post-season honors.

The No. 8-ranked men’s team finished the season 14-5-1, with a loss Oct. 29 to Yavapai College in the Region I semifinals.

The No. 5-ranked women’s team lost Oct. 28 to Phoenix College in the Region I semifinals, finishing 16-3.

Several players from each team received Arizona Community College Athletic Conference (ACCAC) and/or National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA ) Region I honors. They are:

Men’s team

Minh Vu (Freshman; Rincon HS, Tucson) – First Team All-ACCAC, First Team All-Region I
Edgar Reyna (Sophomore; Nogales HS, Nogales) – Second Team All-ACCAC
Sergio Carrillo (Sophomore; Mountain View HS, Marana) – Second Team All-ACCAC
Marco Carrillo (Freshman; Mountain View HS, Marana) – Honorable Mention All-ACCAC

Women’s team

Emily Shuta (Sophomore; Tucson High Magnet, Tucson) – First Team All-ACCAC, First Team All-Region I
Adrianna Phininzy (Sophomore; Palo Verde High Magnet, Tucson) – First Team All-ACCAC, First Team All-Region I
Sophia Whigham (Sophomore; Catalina High Magnet, Tucson) – Second Team All-ACCAC
Letisha Merriex (Sophomore; Rincon/University HS, Tucson) – Second Team All-ACCAC
