Musical "Wonderful Town" Opens Feb. 20

Pima Community College will present Leonard Bernstein’s  musical “Wonderful Town” Feb. 20 through March 2. The production features the talents of more than 60 PCC student actors, dancers, singers, musicians and technical crew, under a collaborative  team of directors.

A preview performance of “Wonderful Town” on Wed., February 20 at 7:30 p.m. will begin the show’s two-week run.  Performances will be Wednesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m, with Sunday matinees at 2 p.m.  Sign language interpreters will be available for the Wednesday, Feb. 27 performance.  All performances are in the PCC Center for the Arts.

“Wonderful Town,” features music by Leonard Bernstein, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and book by Joseph Fields and Jerome Chodorov.  A reworking of the play “My Sister Eileen,” the story follows two sisters in search of love and fortune.  The 1953 original Broadway production won six Tony Awards.  Bernstein’s classic and memorable score includes “Ohio,” “One Hundred Easy Ways,” “A Little Bit In Love,” “Conga,” and “Quiet Girl.”

“Wonderful Town” is the sixth musical production directed by the creative team of Todd Poelstra, David Waggoner and Mickey Nugent.  Inspired by Bernstein’s score, set designer Hogue Day captures the energy of 1930s New York City.
