PCC All-Arizona Academic Team Named
February 19, 2008Eleven Pima Community College students have been named to the All-Arizona Academic Team. Named to the All-Arizona Academic First Team are: Victor Castaneda, Sarah Koltanowski, Melissa Krassikoff, Alison Lamm-Chapman, Aindrea McCammon and Karla Bustamante Scott. Megan McGrath, Paul Robert and Kristi Phillips have been named to the All Arizona Academic Second Team. Third Team members are DeAnna Knoepfle and Tejin Lakdawala. The All-Arizona Academic Team recognizes the academic achievement, leadership and community service of the state’s community college students. Criteria for selection include a grade point average of 3.25 or higher (4.0 scale); good current academic standing and progress towards an Associate’s degree and involvement in campus or community volunteer activities. A state-wide recognition and awards ceremony will be held Thursday, February 21 at Mesa Community College. Each First Team member receives a $1,000 scholarship. A $750 scholarship is provided for second team members, with a $500 scholarship for third team members. Scholarships are provided by Arizona’s community colleges. In addition, each member of the All-Arizona Academic Team receives a two-year tuition waiver to his or her choice of Arizona’s three state universities, courtesy of the Arizona Board of Regents. Nominations to the All-Arizona Academic Team are made by the state’s community college presidents. Team designation is done through a national nominee evaluation by Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for two-year colleges. Nominees are also eligible for the All-USA Team, co-sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa and USA Today newspaper. USA Today will announce the All-USA Team on April 7. Pima Community College has had three All-USA Team members in the past two years, including two First Team representatives.
