GED Graduation Ceremony Thursday, May 29
May 21, 2008 Pima Community College Adult Education will hold a Graduation ceremony for students receiving a General Education Diploma (GED) on Thursday, May 29th. The 7:00 p.m. ceremony will be held in the Tucson Convention Center Music Hall, located at 260 S. Church Avenue. The event is free and open to the public.Approximately 300 GED recipients are expected to attend the celebration with more than 1,000 family and friends. Graduates will also be celebrated by members of the PCC Board of Governors and local community leaders. Recent GED recipient Tom Hardy will serve as the Graduation Ceremony speaker. Hardy spent much of his youth traveling the world and never received a formal education. He began taking GED courses in June, 2007 at the age of 43, and finished with high scores nine months later. Hardy’s appreciation of education and dedication to service has inspired him to encourage others to pursue education. His main message is, “You can do it.” Hardy currently works at a detox facility in order to help others. “It’s about giving back what’s been so freely given to me,” he says. More than 1,400 students received their GED this year through PCC’s Adult Education program. PCC provides GED courses in conjunction with other adult basic education courses to more than 3,000 students a year. For more information, call 206-4500.
