Arizona Adult Education Funded Through FY 2011

March 23, 2010

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College is pleased to announce that it has helped devise a short-term solution to the budget challenges facing Arizona’s Adult Education programs.

As a result, Pima Community College Adult Education (PCCAE) will keep providing high-quality instruction to thousands of Pima County residents at least through Fiscal Year 2011.

In a memo to Arizona Adult Education Program Directors, Karen Liersch, Deputy Associate Superintendent, Adult Education Services, announced that “Arizona Adult Education will be able to meet its match and maintenance of effort requirements for FY 2010 and FY 2011.”

The memo notes that Dr. Roy Flores, Chancellor of Pima Community College, initiated the effort to maintain Adult Education delivery, and lauded Dr. Flores for “leadership and deep commitment” to Arizona’s Adult Education program.

“The state needs skilled, literate workers if it is to prosper, and Adult Education plays a key role in workforce development for tens of thousands of Arizonans,” Dr. Flores said. “However, a long-term funding solution must be found so that the state can continue to lay the educational foundation for Arizona’s future workforce.”

PCCAE served 7,846 students in FY 2008-09.
