PCC Men's Basketball Coach Resigns

April 23, 2010

Tucson, AZ – Karl Pieroway, men’s basketball coach at Pima Community College since June 2008, has resigned.

In a letter to Edgar Soto, Executive Director of Athletics, Mr. Pieroway cited the stress of coaching while working full time at another job as reason for his resignation.

The Aztecs doubled their wins during Mr. Pieroway’s two seasons at PCC. The team improved from 10-20 in 2008-09 to 20-16 in 2009-10. The Aztecs won the Region I title in 2009-10 and finished seventh in the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Tournament last month.

“I could not be more proud of the players and coaches who have worked so hard to achieve so much over a short period of time,” Mr. Pieroway wrote.

“Coach Pieroway took the College’s men’s basketball program to a new level of success,” Mr. Soto said. “More importantly, he and his staff imparted to their players the attributes and values needed to be productive citizens.

“Coach Pieroway will be missed, but the College is grateful that he has laid a foundation for the men’s basketball program’s continued excellence,” Mr. Soto said.

PCC will begin an immediate search for a successor, said Dr. Lorraine Morales, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Development.
