PCC to Graduate More Than 3,000; White House Official to Speak

Cecilia Muñoz, Deputy Assistant to the President and White House Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, will deliver remarks on Thursday, May 20, when 3,144 students are to be graduated from Pima Community College in a ceremony at the Tucson Convention Center Arena, 260 S. Church Ave.

The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Also attending the ceremony will be Juan Sepúlveda, director of the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.

A statistical profile of students who are candidates for graduation Thursday:

  • Total number of degrees and certificates expected to be awarded: 4,658. Many PCC students earn more than one certificate and/or degree.
  • Oldest candidate: Wanda L. Gioe, 71. Youngest: David A. Williams, 16. Each earned an Associate of Arts degree in Liberal Arts.
  • Female candidates: 1,746.  Male candidates: 1,398.
  • Number of candidates who have a grade-point average of better than 3.90 and meet the requirements for graduation with highest honors: 63, or 2 percent of the graduating class.
