PCC Celebrates Ethnic Diversity

October 1, 2010

Pima Community College will host a celebration of ethnic diversity Oct. 4-7. There will be lectures, film, food, art, panel discussions and more.

All events are at the Downtown Campus, 1255 N. Stone Ave., in the Amethyst Room, except where noted.

All events are free and open to the public.

Monday, October 4, 2010

  • 10-10:30 a.m.: Calpulli blessing
  • 10:30 a.m.-noon: Film: “Tribe"
  • Noon-12:15 p.m.: Welcome
  • 12:15-2:30 p.m.: Open Mike and Auction: Poetry jam, music, dance, spoken word, and auction fundraiser of donated goods.
  • TBA (2-3 hrs. concurrent): Yaqui art demonstration, Amethyst Room patio
  • 3-5:30 p.m.: PCC student panel/forum - “Student Involvement on Community Issues: HB2281, SB1070 and Ethnic Studies."
  • 5:30-6 p.m.: Diné blessing
  • 6-9 p.m.: Film: “9500 Liberty” and discussion

  • 7:45-9 a.m.: Ethnic Day celebration: A variety of foods, music, dance, artifacts, and educational materials to celebrate ethnic and cultural diversity, both past and present
  • 9-10:30 a.m.: Guest lecture: Guy Gelbart, “Jewish Renewal in Israel”
  • 10:30 a.m.-noon: Guest lecture: Mike Wilson of the Tohono O’odham Nation “Migrant Deaths and Humanitarian Aid”
  • Noon-1:30 p.m.: Film: “Crossing Arizona”
  • 1:30-3 p.m.: Panel: “Gender, Sexuality and Race/Ethnicity”
