PCC Board Approves Appointments of Two Campus Presidents

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College (PCC) Board of Governors Wednesday approved the hiring of new presidents for the Downtown and Northwest campuses.

The appointments of Dr. Luba Chliwniak to Downtown Campus and Dr. Alex Kajstura to Northwest Campus will become effective no later than July 1, 2011.

Dr. Chliwniak has been Vice President of Academic Affairs at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, N.Y., since 2009. Previously, she was Vice President for Instruction for Harford Community College in Bel Air, Md., from 2004-2009; Vice President for Academic Affairs at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tenn., from 2002-2004; and Executive Director, Workforce and Institutional Development, Cochise College, Douglas, Ariz., from 2001-2002.

Dr. Chliwniak has a Ph.D. in Higher Education from the University of Arizona, where she also earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance.

Dr. Kajstura has been Provost at Tidewater Community College in Virginia Beach, Va., since 2006. From 2000-2006, he was Provost at Daytona Beach Community College in Daytona Beach, Fla., where he was a Dean from 1998-2003. Dr. Kajstura was Associate Dean from 1997-98 at Palm Beach, Community College in Lake Worth, Fla., where he was division chair from 1995-1997.

Dr. Kajstura has a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Ill.; a master’s degree in Business Administration from LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas; a master’s degree in Organic Chemistry from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas; and a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Silesian University in Poland.

PCC received 84 complete applications for the positions.

The next scheduled regular meeting of the Board will be Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at 7 p.m. in the PCC District Office Community/Board Room at 4905 E. Broadway. The meeting will be preceded by a Public Hearing at 6:30 p.m. and a Special Meeting at 6:45 p.m.
