Committee Helping PCC Board Choose Next Chancellor Represents Broad Cross-Section of Community

Tucson, AZ – Pima Community College’s Governing Board Wednesday unanimously approved a diverse 31-member committee of local citizens and PCC employees that will play a key role in choosing PCC’s next chancellor.

Former University of Arizona President Henry Koffler and Lea Marquez-Peterson, president of the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, are members of the Search Advisory Committee, which Governing Board members Dr. Brenda B. Even and David Longoria will co-chair. The committee also includes PCC faculty, staff, administrators and a student. The Board selected the committee from nominations made by the public and PCC employee groups.

“We have broad representation across the community, we have included representatives of both the public sector and the private sector, and we have included our critics as well,” Board Chairman Scott Stewart said.

Mr. Stewart noted that a majority of the committee comes from outside PCC. “The people of Pima County help fund the College with their tax dollars,” he said. “It is crucial that their voices be heard loudly and clearly as we select an individual who’ll set the College’s direction for years to come.”

Last month, the Board unanimously approved a timeline detailing the steps it will take to choose someone to oversee PCC. The timeline targets February-March 2013 for choosing the new chancellor, and July 2013 for having the new chancellor on the job at one of the largest community colleges in the U.S., with approximately 30,000 students attending each semester.

In December, the search committee and an executive search firm will examine résumés and other documents submitted by the applicants and choose semifinalists. In January 2013, the committee will conduct in-person interviews with the semifinalists and submit a list of three to five finalists to the Governing Board.

PCC has created a webpage, www.pima.edu/chancellorsearch, containing information about the search, as well as an email address, chancellorsearch@pima.edu, so that the public can share insights about the search process with the Board.
