Earth Day Events at Northwest, Downtown and Desert Vista Campuses
April 12, 2012
Earth Day-related events are planned at the Northwest, Downtown and Desert Vista campuses. The events are free and open to the public.
April 26 - Desert Vista Campus
On April 26, Desert Vista Campus will have an Earth Day Garden Celebration at its Campus Garden from 11:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. Enjoy demonstrations and free samples from students and instructors in the Culinary Arts degree program and the Center for Training and Development’s Culinary and Food Industry Training programs. In addition, presentations on xeriscaping and water harvesting will be provided.
April 23 - Downtown Campus
On April 23, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Downtown Campus hosts the Show, Tell, Give: Earth Day event. It will take place in the courtyard and is a combined Earth Day Celebration, art showcase, and reading aimed at recognizing Pima Community College students’ talents while also gathering donations for Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is an organization that distributes care packages to U.S. service members. Donated items for Operation Gratitude can include personal letters, candy, snack items, socks (black, grown, green, or tan), personal electronics, gift cards and stationery. During the event, awards will be made for the “Ride Your Bike/Bus to Work Month” contest sponsored by the Downtown Campus’ Sustainable Living Club.
April 18 - Northwest Campus
On April 18, nearly 70 community groups will participate in Earth Day events at the Northwest Campus. It’s an opportunity to encourage students and members of the community to explore the natural world and learn about the geosciences. Participants get the chance to learn about astronomy, climatology, geology and environment protection. They can sample food cooked in a solar oven and check out the accuracy of the giant campus sundial.
The event is 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on the second level open area.
