Provost Migler welcomes students to new semester

August 23, 2012

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Jerry Migler welcomed students to the College via an electronic announcement this morning.

Dear Students,

Welcome to Pima Community College and the start of a new academic year! As PCC's new Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor, I want you to know that everyone here is committed to your success. Our outstanding faculty and support staff are looking forward to helping you achieve your educational goals.

It hasn't taken long for me to realize that this College occupies a special place in this extraordinary community. Tucsonans care deeply about PCC and recognize the critical role we play in enhancing our quality of life. The way we do that, of course, is measured by how well we serve you.

One of the great strengths of PCC is the wide array of support services available to our students. I encourage you to make full use of these resources by checking the menu of information for current students on our website.

The value of a college education is increasingly important in today's economy. A recent study titled The College Advantage: Weathering the Economic Storm showed that the only real job gains in the recent economic recovery are in areas which require some postsecondary education. As the authors of the study put it, "college degrees have served as protection for Americans seeking shelter during a tough economic storm."

For you and college students everywhere, the study should send a clear message: The investment you make in your education is a smart one.

At Pima Community College you will find no shortage of opportunities to learn new things, meet new people, explore new interests or develop new skills. We're glad you're here. Make the most of this experience. Have a great year!

Jerry Migler
Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Services
