PCC Solar Project

Facilities has provided a fact sheet to answer some of the common questions associated with the College's electricity use and how the district is using solar to lower the electric utility charge.

Solon/Solar City

Solon and Solar City are the College's partners in the district wide solar project.  In addition to the covered parking lots and solar arrays that are going up, Solon will also donate funds to the PCC Foundation and funds have been allocated to plant over 300 trees by the U.S. Forest Service.

City of Tempe S.A.V.E. solar project

At the end of 2012, the City of Tempe issued an RFP for Solar Photovoltaic Electric Generating Systems.  The City of Tempe (and Pima Community College) is a member of the Strategic Alliance for Volume Expenditures, also known as S.A.V.E.

Below is the RFP put out by the City of Tempe to fulfill the S.A.V.E. Cooperative Purchasing requirements and the awarded Solar Services Agreement.  Also Included is a list of S.A.V.E. members as of April 7, 2016.

College-wide Designated Smoking Areas

In accordance with the Pima Community College Board Policy 8.07 regarding tobacco, areas have been designated for smoking, e-cigarettes, and tobacco product use.  Smoking signage is in place at all campuses and new smoking areas with benches have been established college-wide.  Upgrades to these areas are currently on going.

These areas are marked with blue signs indicating “Designated Smoking Area.”  See maps for these locations:


Improvement Projects

Desert Vista Campus - Plaza Building Renovation

May 31 through December 18, 2016, Facilities staff and contractors will renovate the Plaza Building, Second Floor for the creation of the Campus Integrated Model for Attainment (CIMA).  There will be no access to this area during the work.  

Watch for workers moving supplies and equiment.  there will be construction noise and moderate disruption. Please plan accordingly [view map]

Northwest Campus - Student Services Renovation

May 25 through August 8, 2016, Facilities staff and contractors will renovate Building B, first floor Student Services.  There will be no access this area during the work.  The Cashier's office and elevator will remain in operation and accessible.

West Campus - Dental Clinic and Dental Lab Renovations

May 31 through August 23, 2016, contractors will renovate portions of the K Building, 2nd floor Dental Clinic and Dental Lab.  There will be no access to the Dental areas until work is complete.  Watch for workers moving supplies and equipment in this area.  Please plan accordingly. [view map]

West Campus - Routine Maintenance, Interior Painting

Beginning August 10, 2015, District Paint staff will start routine painting maintenance campus-wide.  Painting in classrooms, offices, and corridors will be at the convenience of the campus staff.  Work will be ongoing until complete.  Disruptions should be minimal.
