United Way campaign chancellor’s message
Pima Community College is a longtime supporter of the United Way campaign, and I want to thank those who have contributed in the past.
United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona helps a wide variety of our neighbors, including those with low-wage jobs who struggle to make ends meet, by providing job skills training, affordable childcare, education opportunities and more. United Way leverages every dollar of investment into $5.01 in state, federal and volunteer support.
PCC employees give back to the community in a wide variety of ways, and I hope that you will again support this important community fund drive in 2014. The College offers a payroll deduction plan to those who wish to give to agencies supported through United Way, and designate where you want your donation to go.
Working together, we can make our region a better place for everyone.
Lee D. Lambert,
United Way Days of Caring Campaign
It is my privilege to serve as Chair of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona for 2014-2015. In that capacity, I urge you consider supporting the work of the United Way as either a volunteer for Days of Caring or as a donor. Last year, Pima Community College raised more than $30,000 for United Way causes.
The United Way’s mission is to build a better community by uniting people, ideas and resources. How different is that from the mission of our College, to develop our community through learning?
The United Way and its partners believe that everyone in our community deserves opportunities to have a good life: A quality education that leads to a stable job; enough income to support a family through retirement; and good health. The collective impact of the United Way and its partners represents a powerful synergy, a synergy through which the whole is much larger than the sum of its parts. We are all connected and interdependent. We all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, when people are healthy.
Did you know:
- For every $1 invested in the United Way, we leverage $5.01 in state and federal grants and volunteer support – totaling more than $14.6 million in 2013-2014.
- The United Way Volunteer Income Tax Preparation Program (VITA) prepared 14,438 free income tax returns in 2013.
- You can receive Arizona Tax Credit ($200 filing single or $400 filing joint) by supporting United Ways’ Helping the Working Poor Fund.
The College offers a payroll deduction plan to those who wish to give to agencies supported by the United Way. You can designate where you want your donation to go, including the PCC Foundation, which supports the College and provides scholarships to students.
Let’s support United Way’s mission.
GIVE. ADVOCATE. VOLUNTEER. LIVE UNITED.
